Education is the key to a brighter future, and at Murphy Charitable Foundation Uganda, we are committed to ensuring that vulnerable children across Uganda can unlock that future. Our recent “Go Back to School” initiative provided thousands of children with essential scholastic materials, such as books, pens, pencils, and mathematical sets, allowing them to return to school equipped and ready to learn. This project was made possible through the generosity of one of our international stakeholders from New York City, who shares our vision of empowering vulnerable children through education.

We distributed these educational materials to children in the districts of Bukedea, Bududa, Mbale, Pallisa, and Kumi, all areas where access to basic school supplies can be a barrier to learning. Our goal is simple: to ensure that every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, has access to the tools they need for a quality education.

While visiting these communities, it became clear that many vulnerable children are being left behind. Poverty, lack of resources, and other challenges prevent them from continuing their education. To address this, we’ve expanded our Pen Pal Program, which aims to enroll one million vulnerable children into a mentorship network. This effort will be bolstered by the launch of the Pen Pal Magic App in October 2024, a platform designed to connect children with mentors and provide ongoing support for their educational journeys.

Our dedication to quality education doesn’t stop there. We’re proud to support children through a variety of programs, including our Child Sponsorship Program, Motivational Movie Project, and the construction of community libraries. These initiatives work together to ensure that children not only go back to school but stay in school and thrive.

Our work is expanding rapidly, and we are committed to reaching every corner of Uganda and beyond. In many rural areas, poverty remains a significant barrier to education, but we believe that by addressing these challenges, we can give every child the opportunity to succeed.
