Visiting a cancer hospital in Uganda.

At the Murphy Charitable Foundation Uganda, we are deeply committed to our goal of providing care and support to children, recognizing them as the future of tomorrow. In collaboration with Glovo Uganda, we have taken concrete steps to make a positive impact in the lives of children battling cancer by donating essential hospital materials to The Uganda Cancer Institute.

During our visit to the Uganda Cancer Institute, we were struck by the stark reality that these young patients are in dire need of basic resources and nutritional foods, despite the government’s efforts to support their medical expenses. Cancer is an incredibly challenging and often financially burdensome disease to manage, especially when it comes to accessing crucial medical resources and palliative care. The children diagnosed with cancer not only require advanced medical treatments but also comprehensive counseling and guidance that instill hope and empower them to fight the disease with strength and resilience.

One of the doctors at The Uganda Cancer Institute shared with us a concerning fact – many of these children come from districts located more than 250km away from Kampala city. These young patients, who have made significant progress in their treatment and are deemed well enough to return home, face a significant obstacle: they lack the means to travel back to their respective districts or communities. As a result, they are left with no choice but to remain within the hospital premises. This unfortunate situation leaves them stranded in the suburbs of Kampala city, far away from their homes, families, and familiar surroundings.

To address this pressing issue, we have forged a partnership with The Uganda Cancer Institute to organize and provide sufficient and safe modes of transport for these children. Our goal is to ensure that those who are well enough to return to their home districts across Uganda can do so without any hindrances. By collaborating with the hospital, we aim to alleviate the distressing predicament these young patients face, enabling them to reunite with their families and communities and continue their journey towards recovery.

Through the joint efforts of the Murphy Charitable Foundation Uganda, Glovo Uganda, and The Uganda Cancer Institute, we strive to make a tangible difference in the lives of these children battling cancer. We firmly believe that by addressing their practical needs and ensuring a smooth transition back to their homes, we can provide them with a sense of security, comfort, and renewed hope. It is our unwavering commitment to continue supporting these young warriors as they navigate the challenges of cancer, ensuring that they receive the comprehensive care and support they need to thrive and flourish.
